Avla and Pavo launch new partnership to support mare owners throughout the breeding journey
Avla and equine nutrition specialist Pavo are entering into a new partnership focused on the needs of mare owners throughout the entire breeding journey – from covering to foaling and beyond. The aim is to combine technology and research to provide better guidance on feeding, nutrition, and welfare for the pregnant mare and the growing foal.
Making the right decisions at the right time is crucial in breeding, particularly when it comes to feed choices, nutritional balance, and early growth. This is where Avla’s platform and Pavo’s science-based nutrition expertise come together in a shared mission: to strengthen mare owners’ knowledge, confidence, and everyday decision-making.
“For decades, Pavo has conducted research on the role of nutrition in equine health. Together, we now want to translate that expertise into practical advice, smart digital tools, and relevant information for our users,” says Sara Edin, CEO of Avla.
As part of the collaboration, Pavo will contribute in-depth articles based on decades of research into fetal development, young horse growth, and the role of nutrition in preventing issues such as OCD (osteochondrosis). App users will have direct access to these articles within the platform as an optional knowledge resource throughout the entire pregnancy journey.
Pavo will also provide time-specific feeding recommendations linked to the pregnancy calendar, offering concrete guidance on what type of nutrition is needed and when feeding should be adjusted according to the mare’s and fetus’s needs at different stages.
“We are driven by helping every horse thrive. Through Avla, we gain direct contact with mare owners in Sweden and can offer research-based advice at exactly the right time. This is an important step in spreading knowledge about how proper nutrition supports both mare and foal,” says Richard Jonson, Head of Pavo Sweden.
The collaboration is part of Avla’s long-term commitment to building a safer, more data-driven, and well-informed breeding process – with the horse’s well-being always at the center.
