About Kannan
Kannan is regarded as one of the world’s leading breeding stallions and is currently ranked seventh on the WBFSH rankings. For many years, he has firmly established himself as one of the most influential sires of winning show jumpers worldwide. His most defining qualities are power, respect for the fences, and great bravery—traits he consistently passes on to his offspring and which have made him one of the most sought-after stallions in international breeding.
Kannan dominated the sport already as a young horse. He won the Belgian Championships for five-, six-, and seven-year-olds and, as a six-year-old, reached the final at the World Championships for Young Jumping Horses. In Nations Cup competition, he claimed victories in Lisbon in both 2000 and 2001, on one occasion being the only horse to jump double clear. In 2003, he won the bronze medal at the French Championships, followed by a second-place finish in the Nations Cup in Gijón in 2004. The pinnacle of his national career came in 2005, when he won the French Championships. That same year, he also competed at the European Championships in San Patrignano with Michel Hécart.
At international Grand Prix level, Kannan recorded a victory in the Grand Prix of Deauville and finished second in the Grand Prix classes in Gijón, La Courneuve, and Vichy. He was also a key member of the French team that won the Nations Cup in both Lisbon and La Baule.
Alongside his sport career, Kannan began breeding at an early stage, which has resulted in an exceptional number of successful sport horses. Among his most prominent offspring are Nino des Buissonnets, winner of individual Olympic gold and the World Cup Final; Molly Malone, who claimed multiple Grand Prix and World Cup victories; and Quabri de l’Isle, winner of an Olympic qualifier in Rio de Janeiro. In addition, he has sired numerous international top-level horses such as A Pikachu de Muze, Baldo S, Bridgit, Oh d’Eole, A Big Boy, Quorida de Trého, Diva, Albfuehren’s Paille, Toupie de la Roque, Symphonie des Biches, Sultan du Château, Sherkan d’Amaury, Simba de la Roque, Romance du Criolo, Tarzan d’Ivraie, Tradition de la Roque, Séphora Sonzéenne, Sunshine du Phare, Tel Elu St Siméon, Thalis de la Roque, Toledo du Phare, Un de Chez Nous, Uthope de la Roque, and Uppsala del Caballero. Since 2010, Kannan has consistently held a top position in the WBFSH stallion rankings.
In his pedigree, Kannan combines two of the great foundation sires of show jumping breeding, Voltaire and Nimmerdor. Voltaire himself was an international winner with Jos Lansink in the saddle and has produced more than 200 offspring competing at international level in CSI, CSIO, and CSI-W competitions. The dam line is equally strong, producing both approved stallions and a large number of top-level international sport horses.
