About Comme il Faut
Combining an outstanding pedigree with proven results at the highest level, Comme il Faut has established a strong international reputation. His position among the world’s elite also gives his offspring considerable market value. According to the Horsetelex IPV ranking, he is already among the leading sires of winners in CSI competition.
Comme il Faut boasts an exceptional pedigree, with the world-renowned Cornet Obolensky as his sire and the legendary Ratina Z—double Olympic gold medalist—as his dam. This unique combination gives him an extraordinary genetic profile within modern show jumping breeding.
As a young horse, Comme il Faut enjoyed a highly successful career, including a second-place finish at the World Championships for Five-Year-Old Horses. At just eight years of age, he competed internationally with Marcus Ehning, starting in three-star competitions in Paderborn and Dortmund and in five-star Grand Prix classes on the Global Champions Tour in London.
The 2018 season brought major success, with strong performances in five-star Grand Prix events and a seventh-place finish at the World Cup Final in Gothenburg. In 2019, he placed in the World Cup qualifier in Leipzig. His record also includes victories on the Global Champions Tour, World Cup wins, and numerous top placings in World Cup competitions.
In breeding, Comme il Faut has already produced a large number of international sport horses as well as several approved and premium stallions. Among them are Comilfo Plus Z and Hermantico, along with the premium stallions Comme il Real, Coronet d’Honneur, Cornet’s Fire Z, and Come si Deve.
His sire, Cornet Obolensky, is regarded as one of the world’s leading show jumping sires and consistently ranks at the top of the WBFSH stallion rankings. At his performance test in 2001, he finished second and placed third in his group at the 30-day test, earning a score of 9.24 for jumping and a perfect 10.0 for free jumping. Cornet Obolensky enjoyed an outstanding sport career with both Ludger Beerbaum and Marco Kutscher.
As a five-year-old, Cornet Obolensky was a finalist at the Bundeschampionat and ranked at the top of the international Youngster Tour. With Marco Kutscher, he won the German Championships in 2008, claimed numerous Grand Prix victories, and represented Germany at the Olympic Games the same year. In 2009, he placed second in the World Cup in Bordeaux, third in the Grand Prix of Rio de Janeiro, and finished highly placed in the Global Champions Tour Final in Doha. Cornet Obolensky was also part of the gold-medal-winning German team at the European Championships in 2011. In 2012, he won the World Cup competition in Zurich as well as the Nations Cups in Rome and Rotterdam and was the highest-earning German horse that year. In recognition of his achievements, he was named “Ambassador” of the BWP in 2012.
On the dam line, three generations of exceptional broodmares stand out. The dam, Ratina Z, won team gold and individual silver at the Olympic Games in 1992 with Piet Raijmakers. Ridden by Ludger Beerbaum, she went on to win team gold at the 1996 Olympic Games, team gold at the World Championships, and both team and individual gold at the European Championships in 1997—cementing her status as one of the most successful mares in the history of show jumping.
