About Candy de Nantuel
Candy de Nantuel, born in 2012, is a modern jumping stallion approved with Selle Français, Danish Warmblood, Oldenburg, Zangersheide, and SWB. He has made a strong impact at an early stage in both sport and breeding and is described as a stallion whose offspring are already making a significant impression, clearly showing the potential to develop into an influential sire.
As a young stallion, Candy de Nantuel was among the most sought-after stallions at the Fences Elite Auction in 2015 and was subsequently awarded 19 out of 20 points at the French stallion performance test. He has excelled in international young horse classes, won the Selle Français Stallion Masters in February 2017, and impressed at the World Championships for Seven-Year-Old Jumping Horses in Lanaken in 2019. In sport, he has competed successfully up to 1.55 m level. He was previously ridden by Thomas Rousseau and is now competed by Pénélope Leprevost.
Candy de Nantuel stands out for his modern jumping type, a canter suited for top-level sport, and his great explosiveness, elasticity, and quick reflexes. His light, athletic jumping technique combined with excellent reactivity makes him ideally suited to today’s international courses.
In breeding, his offspring have already demonstrated very high quality, achieving success from young horse classes up to 1.40 m level, and he also has several approved sons. Among the first approved breeding sons are Highland de Riverland and Hot Savoie, both approved with Selle Français.
His sire, Luidam, competed at the very highest international level with Billy Twomey. His achievements include the European Championships in Donaueschingen in 2003, the World Equestrian Games in Aachen in 2006, and victories in Nations Cup CSIO5* competitions in both St. Gallen and Dublin. Despite a limited number of coverings, Luidam has produced more than 25 Grand Prix and international show jumpers, including Authentic (Olympic gold in Beijing with Beezie Madden), Vindicat (team gold at the London Olympic Games with Peter Charles), as well as horses such as Rendam, VDL Groep Amelie, Simon, Luibanta BH, and Luikka.
The dam, Thara de Nantuel, competed internationally up to 1.45 m level and took part in CSI3* events as well as the Junior European Championships in Samorin with Arthur Deuquet. She has also produced the international jumping talent Cobalt de Nantuel. The dam line is among the strongest in France and has produced sport horses such as the eventing horse Tatchou (CCI4*, ridden by Nicolas Touzaint).
Thara’s full brother Orphée de Nantuel is an approved stallion with Selle Français, while her full sister Océane de Nantuel competed at Grand Prix level with both Titouan Schumacher and Michel Hécart. Océane is also the dam of the international top-level horse Viceversa de la Roque (1.60 m) with Alberto Zorzi, as well as the international show jumpers Uthope de la Roque and Atlantic de la Roque. Candy de Nantuel is also closely related to the 1.60 m jumper Nature Menardière (ridden by Søren von Rönne), Pacha de Nantuel (ridden by Reed Kessler), and the approved stallion Darshan, ridden by Mohamed Talaat.
The pedigree also includes both Diamant de Semilly and Quidam de Revel, two of the most influential foundation sires in modern show jumping breeding, further strengthening Candy de Nantuel’s outstanding genetic profile.
