About Caroline Breeding Stallions

Caroline Breeding Stallions (CBS) was founded in 2017 by Caroline Smolders, sister of show jumper Harrie Smolders. The business runs from the family’s base in Lage-Mierde in the south of the Netherlands. Caroline got her interest in breeding from her father and grew up with horses and riding. Today CBS manages more than 40 selected jumping stallions. Several of them, including Tiger van ‘t Ruytershof and Pegase van ‘t Ruytershof, were picked and ridden by Harrie himself. CBS sees itself as an independent advisor. Caroline helps mare owners find a stallion that suits their particular mare, based on offspring, ability and temperament. Semen is available fresh/chilled and frozen. Chilled semen is collected on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays. CBS offers semen from its stallions both fresh/chilled and frozen. Semen types and fees vary by stallion. See each stallion’s page or the CBS price list. Chilled semen is collected on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays. Order before 9:00 AM on the day. The aim is one dose per cycle. Semen is sold on two terms. Under a stud fee contract, the first part of the fee is paid before delivery and the second part if the mare is in foal on 1 October. If she is not, the breeder sends a statement signed by the vet. The mare is inseminated a maximum of three times, and the full fee is due for every foal or frozen embryo. When buying by the straw, everything is paid up front and there is no in-foal guarantee. All prices exclude VAT, shipping and health certificates. Shipping and insemination are at the mare owner’s own risk and cost. Straws remain the property of the stallion owner and must be returned, including empty ones. They may not be resold without written permission from CBS. Semen may not be used for ICSI. Send the mare’s details to CBS before shipment. Do more in the Avla app

This is just a glimpse of what's here. The Avla app is where breeders plan their next foal, whether it's your first mare or your fortieth season. Open this station in the app and you get the full picture: every stallion standing here, their complete descriptions, photos, competition results and full pedigrees.

And Avla goes well beyond browsing stallions. It’s your digital breeding partner, with you from the first “which stallion?” all the way to the foal on the ground. Calculate inbreeding between any mare and stallion in seconds, so you can match with confidence instead of crossing your fingers. Track your mare’s heat cycles, log every covering, treatment, and ultrasound, and follow her through pregnancy with a calendar that walks you week by week. And when you’re weighing your options, Stig, Avla’s AI breeding advisor, is there to talk through matches and answer your breeding questions like a friend who knows their bloodlines.

No scattered notebooks, no guesswork. Just your whole breeding journey in one place, free to download on the App Store and Google Play.
