Welcome to Katrinelund Katrinelund is run by Ib Kirk and his family: his wife Marie and their children, Martin and Ea Marie. Ib was born and raised on the farm as a third-generation stallion keeper, and his deep passion for horses – and stallions in particular – began already in childhood. The family estate Katrinelund is steeped in history and tradition, and in 2023 Katrinelund celebrated its 100th anniversary as a stallion station. Back in 1921, Ib’s grandfather, Andreas Kirk, purchased the Katrinelund farm on Hesterøroddevej, and two years later he laid the foundation for Katrinelund as a stallion station. With his Belgian stallion harnessed to a gig, Andreas travelled from farm to farm on the island of Mors to service the local mares. Later, Ib’s father, Børge Kirk, took over the farm and continued both the traditions and the stallion station, with valuable help from Ib himself, who began working as a stallion keeper at the age of ten with a Shetland pony stallion. Katrinelund is known for keeping pace with modern developments while remaining firmly rooted in tradition. One example is the old gig, driven by Ib’s grandfather, father and Ib himself, which is brought out every year for the open house event. In 2022, the gig was driven by Ib’s children, marking the fourth generation at the stallion station. At Katrinelund, we take great pride in building close and long-lasting relationships with our customers – many of whom we have known for generations, just as we know their horses’ pedigrees several generations back. We see this knowledge and these relationships as one of our greatest strengths, as they allow us to offer personal and tailored solutions that meet the unique needs of both horse and owner.
